Front Porch for Less

Posted: April 24th, 2016

My house needs more curb appeal so I've decided to update my front porch. Again, as most of you know, I'm on a budget, hoping to work with what I have around the house.

The first part I've decided to update is my front door. The current brown color blends too much with the stone on the front of my house. I really want my door to stand out more from the road. So, I picked out a Roasted Pepper Behr Paint Color from Home Depot. I only needed a quart to get the job done.

After I painted the door, it was time for the fun part......decorating! I knew I could save some money simply by using some furniture and other items I've had stored in the basement. That's the secret to saving money! Use what you have, in a different way, instead of buying an item new.

My Grandparents moved into a Nursing Home Facility a few years back so I received some of their wicker porch furniture. I remember sitting under their covered porch in these wicker chairs, every Summer. As I began setting up the two chairs and the table, the cherished memories of sitting on their porch with a glass of fresh lemonade started to come back. Having the chairs on my front porch is the perfect way to always remember the wonderful memories of my Grandparents' porch.

I needed new cushions for the chairs so I purchased two from Kohls for $39. I really wanted a more personalized look for our front porch so I ordered a Monogrammed Wall Art piece from Grandin Road. I had a 20% off coupon so I ended up paying $27.00 for the Letter S. I purchased a wooden tray at Jo-Ann Fabrics for $7 after I used a 50% off coupon. I placed two flameless candles I had in the basement, on the tray.

The black urn planter, near the door, ended up being such a bargain! During a sale at Lowe's, this planter was originally $11.46 but it was on sale for $6.97. I went to Lowe's and found one left on the shelf. I had a $5 Lowe's Gift Card from a Promo Deal so I ended up only paying $1.97 for the urn. I purchased flowers for the urn that totaled $10.98.

I purchased two hanging petunia plants from my daughter's preschool fundraiser. Each hanging plant cost $20 each. I also purchased a geranium plant that was on clearance at Lowe's for $2.00 for my front step. The wreath I placed on my front door was in my basement and the watering can by the urn was a gift from my neighbor.

I just love how my porch looks now! It's simple yet welcoming to those who come to my front door.

My Out of Pocket Cost: $151.95!
